　　Harrow Guangzhou Celebrates School Seal Conferment, Marking a New Chapter in Harrow’s 450-Year Story

　　Harrow International School Guangzhou marked an important milestone in its founding year with the Harrow School Seal Conferment Ceremony, welcoming Mr Alastair Land, Head Master of Harrow School in the UK, to the new Guangzhou campus.

　　On 17 September 2026, Mr Land joined Mr Bryce Wan, Chief Executive Officer of Asia International Schools Limited (AISL), Dr Ahmed Hussain, Chief Education Officer of AISL, Mrs Ruth Whymark, Founding Head of Harrow Guangzhou, together with founding pupils, families and members of the school community, to mark the occasion.

　　The presentation of the School Seal represents a significant connection between Harrow Guangzhou and the Harrow School’s 450-year heritage. It also marks the beginning of a new chapter: one that brings Harrow’s longstanding educational traditions, values and approach to pastoral care together with a forward-looking education in Guangzhou.

　　Reflecting on his visit, Mr Alastair Land said:

　　“Today’s ceremony marks not only a new beginning, but also gives us a clearer sense of what Harrow Guangzhou is becoming. The innovative teaching and technology at the AISL Future Lab complement Harrow’s longstanding values and the care and support provided within the boarding community. For a school at the very beginning of its journey, Harrow Guangzhou has already demonstrated a remarkable sense of maturity and character. Whether in the quality of teaching or the care shown to pupils, there is a real sense of confidence and purpose.”

　　A Living Connection to 450 Years of Harrow Heritage

　　The Harrow School Seal has its origins in 1572, when Queen Elizabeth I granted a Royal Charter to John Lyon, the founder of Harrow School. The Seal presented to Harrow Guangzhou is based on the wax seal attached to that historic Charter.

　　For Harrow Guangzhou, the Seal represents a tangible connection between the School’s founding pupils and more than four centuries of Harrow education. It also reflects the shared educational standards, values and traditions connecting Harrow Guangzhou with Harrow School and the wider AISL Harrow family.

　　Mrs Ruth Whymark, Founding Head of Harrow Guangzhou, said:

　　“The conferment of the Harrow School Seal is both a passing of history and a prelude to the future. Today, we gather not only to witness the presentation of the Seal, but also to celebrate the enduring values that connect every member of our community. These are the same values that unite us as part of the AISL Harrow family. 　　What Makes a Harrovian?

　　The ceremony also provided an opportunity to reflect on what it means to be a Harrovian beyond academic achievement.

　　Mr Alastair Land joined a Harrow alumnus and pupil representatives for a panel discussion entitled “What Makes a Harrovian? Values, Character and Life Beyond Harrow.”

　　The conversation explored how Harrow’s four values, Courage, Honour, Humility and Fellowship, continue to shape the experiences of pupils today, from their time at school through to life beyond Harrow. For Harrow Guangzhou, these values sit at the heart of the School’s approach to education. Academic excellence is accompanied by a strong emphasis on character, relationships, service and the development of young people who are prepared to contribute with confidence and purpose.

　　Learning for the Future

　　While rooted in a long educational tradition, Harrow Guangzhou is designed for the world in which its pupils will live and work.

　　The School established three specialist learning spaces, the AISL Future Lab, AISL Entrepreneurship Centre and AISL Language Lab, to complement the academic curriculum and provide pupils with opportunities to explore technology, innovation, entrepreneurship and language development through practical learning.

　　During the Seal visit, founding pupils acted as ‘innovation ambassadors’ sharing projects they had developed in the Future Lab, including 3D printing, drone technology and AI.

　　The three centres support different aspects of the School’s future-focused approach:

　　AISL Future Lab brings together AI, robotics, programming, data literacy and STEAM, giving pupils opportunities to learn through experimentation and practical application.

　　AISL Entrepreneurship Centre introduces pupils to innovation, enterprise and real-world problem-solving, helping them develop leadership and an understanding of responsible entrepreneurship.

　　AISL Language Lab provides personalised language support, helping pupils strengthen their English communication, reading, writing and critical-thinking skills.

　　Mr Bryce Wan, CEO of AISL, said:
