    一、青海概况

    青海是一个美丽而神奇的地方,她位于中国西部的青藏高原,雄居世界屋脊之上,与新疆、西藏、甘肃、四川四省区相邻接。全省地貌为盆地、草原、雪山、沙漠、湖泊等。著名的长江、黄河及澜沧江从这里发源,故有“江河源头”之称。

    青海是个多民族的省份,这里主要生活着藏、回、土、撒拉、蒙古等少数民族。两千多年来,他们在这里繁衍生息,形成了本民族独特的传统文化和风俗习惯,他们善良淳朴、热情好客、相互交融、共同繁荣进步。

    省会西宁位于河湟谷地,冬无严寒、夏无酷暑,7、8间平均气温20℃—26.8℃,是夏季避暑、旅游的理想之地。省内主要旅游景点有塔尔寺观光、青海湖揽胜、孟达天池濯足、都兰草原狩猎、热贡艺术鉴赏、柳湾文物觅古等。青藏高原以她独特的自然风光和人文景观吸引了许多国内外游人。尤其是改革开放以来,前来进行学术交流、观光旅游、投资开发的国际友人更是络绎不绝。

    二、学院简介

    青海民族学院是中国江河源头第一所少数民族高等院校,座落在古城西宁,创建与1949年,占地428亩。学院现有20个教学系(部)、5个研究生专业、53个本、专科专业。开展硕士研究生、本科生、专科生、预科生、外国留学生、成人及职业技术教育和师资培养工作。有文学、理学、管理学、法学、历史学、药学六大学科,是一所多层次、多学科的综合性民族高等院校。全院有教职工1007名,其中教师和研究人员572名,高级职称150名,国家和省部级专家18名。现有来在青海各地的藏、回、土、蒙古、撒拉等18个民族的8334多名学生,其中少数民族学生占70%以上。学院藏书82万余册,大藏经988函。中国少数民族语言文学(藏语言文学)、中国民族史(青海地方民族史)、化学三个学科是省级重点学科。藏语言文学招收博士生。

    三、对外教学

    学院在努力发展普通高等教育的同时,充分发挥民族学科及民族研究的优势,加强对外友好往来和学术交流,积极招收培养外籍留学生,是青海省培养外籍留学生的主要院校之一。

    学院的民族学科、民族研究和多民族共同生活、学习、交流的环境,形成了各民族文化交汇、融合的独特的文化氛围,外国友人在这里不但可以学习汉语和其他民族语言文字,而且还可以了解到青海土著民族如藏族、回族、土族、撒拉族、蒙古族的生活习惯,历史文化等独特的人文特色。少数民族语言文字和纯正的普通话语言环境,丰富的图书、文物古迹资料为外国友人专心学业、潜心研究、广泛交流提供了可靠保障。

    学院珍藏有青海藏、回、土、蒙古、撒拉五个少数民族的500余件古时服装、首饰、生产、生活和文化用品,为外国留学生了解青海的少数民族提供了实物资源。吸引了许多国家的研究者和参观者。良好的居住环境,方便的食宿条件,热情周到的生活服务,安全规范的住宿管理可供外籍留学生及陪读人员在这里愉快生活。

    学院根据外国友人前来学习、研究的目标,突出自身汉语文和民族语文学科的优势,广泛开展对外汉语、藏语教学和指导外籍友人进行民族研究。学院储备有相配套的对外教材可供外籍留学生选择;组织具有丰富教学经验的专、兼职教师,采取编班授课为主,单独授课为辅的方式授课,利用汉、藏、英文及其它民族语言文字进行教学,非常适应不同程度的外籍留学生学习的需要,截止目前,学院已培养了来自意大利、法国、德国、瑞士、美国、加拿大、日本、韩国、印度尼西亚、南非、澳大利亚等20多个国家300余名留学生。同时,还先后聘请了30余名外籍专家来院任教,收到了良好的效果。

    四、入学须知

    (一)招生对象

    普通进修生
    具有高中以上学历、身体健康的外籍友人均可报名来我院学习。

    本科生
    具有高中以上学历,须取得我国“HSK”最低合格等级证书(初等C级),藏语言文学本科生还需要参加我院藏语水平测试,达到要求方可入学。

    (二)招生类别
    1、长期留学生:注册学习,研究时间为一学期(共18周)以上者。
    2、短期留学生(留学生团组):注册学习,研究时间为一学期以下者。
    3、本科生:学制3-4年。

    (三)入学时间
    每年三、九月入学(也可随时申请入学)。要在入学前两面个月提出书面申请,以便及时办理入学注册手续。

    (四)申请程序

    申请留学生的个人或团体请与我院办公室外事科联系,领取《青海民族学院外籍留学生教育简介》及《青海民族学院外籍留学生入学申请表》,将此表填写好后连同50美元报名费邮寄给我方,申请表也可传真给我方。凡符合我院招生条件的,我方在收到申请表和报名费后,由我方将《青海民族学院外籍留学生入学通知书》及青海省教育厅批准的《JW202表》寄给申请人或派遣单位。申请人持以上两份文件到中国使(领)馆办理“X”签证后,在入学通知书规定的期限内,持本人入学通知书、JW202表、健康证明(包括原始化验单)和个人2寸免冠照片4张自行到学校报到。

    (五)专业课程设置

    普通进修生
    1、初级、中级、高级汉语(听、说、读、写)。
    2、藏语、蒙古语(听、说、读、写)。
    3、青海土著少数民族历史、文化、经济、教育、风土人情考察研究。
    4、其他学科领域的学习与研究。
    5、HSK辅导。

    本科生
    1、汉语言文学本科专业。
    2、藏语言文学本科专业。

    每星期授课时数为14-16课时,每学期保证17-18星期的授课时间。

    (六)学习与结业
    普通进修生学习期间安排在校外进行实习,费用自理,学习期满,发结业证。本科生按我院专业所规定的教学计划执行,修完学业,成绩、论文合格发本科毕业证。

    (七)上级主管部门审批费
    学习期限结束后未及时申请注册继续学习的,再次学习须重新交纳审批费。

    (八)学费
    1、编班授课每学期700美元。
    2、单独授课每学期900美元。
    3、短期留学生每星期60美元。
    4、本科生每学年1800美元。

    (九)住宿费
    公寓单人间每人每天3美元,内设有个人厨房、卫生间(洗澡间),均配备家具、电视、洗衣机、冰箱、煤气灶等生活必需设施。
    假期离开,每天收1美元财产保管费,不收房费。

    I. General Survey of Qinghai

    Qinghai Province is a beautiful and mysterious place, which is located on the Qinghai- Tibetan plateau in the western part of China. It is perched in the northwest, Gansu Province to the northeast, the Xizang Autonomous Region to the Southwest, and Sichan Province to the southeast. There are basins, prairies, snow capped mountains, desserts, and lakes. The famous Yangtze River, the Yellow River and the Lancang River have their sources in Qinghai Province. Hence Qinghai is named “The source of river”. Qinghai Province is a multiethnic region where five main national minorities live-Tibetans, Huis, Tus, Salars and Mongolians. For two thousand years, they have lived here and have formed their own cultures and customs. They are kind and hospitable. All of the minorities thrive and prosper together.

    Xining-the capital of Qinghai Province, lies in the bend of river, and there is neither a bitterly cold period in winter nor an intensely hot period in summer. During the hotest months of July and August, the average temperature ranges from20℃to 26.8℃. Thus, Xining and the surrounding areas are the best summer resort and tourists spots in China.
The main scenic spots for tourists are the Taer lamasery, Qinghai Lake, the Mountain-Top Lake, and the Dulan grassland hunting range.  Tourists can also see Regong`s artwork and Liuwan`s cultural relics.

    The Qinghai-Tibetan plateau has attracted many visitors both from home and abroad. Since the open policy was put in place, many international people have visited and done research in Qinghai.

    II.A brief Introduction to the University

    Qinghai Nationalities University is situated in Xining-the oldest city of the Qinghai Plateau. Found in 1949, this university is the earliest institute of higher learning established in Qinghai for the education of minorities. It covers 428 mu.

    There are about 20 departments、research institutions. These include 5 post-Graduate studies, 53 four-year under graduate courses, a two-year under graduate course and a preparatory course, and adult professional and teacher training, as well as international students` education. Besides offering Arts and science courses it also has an Administration Science law Historic and Medical Subjects. There are 1013 staff members, among whom 572 are teacher and researchers, 67 professors and associate professors, with 16 being graded as excellent experts and key members of the nation and province. Seven thousand two hundred students are studying at the university, 70%of whom are from the 18 different minority groups in Qinghai including Tibetans, Huis, Tus, Mongolians and Salars. The University’s library contains approximately eight hundred and twenty thousand books and 988 volumes Da zangjing.

    QNU specializes in the minorities’ languages and literature, Tibetan language literature, the local history of nations, and chemistry. Tibetan language literature enroll Doctor degree students.

    As one of the key university in Qinghai, many international students have studied at the university. Not only does it place great importance on the development of the outstanding national cultures but also on the research into Chinese and Qinghai in policies, economies, religions, nationalities, population and strategies for development.

    The university has collected over 500 artifacts of ancient costumes, ornaments and necessities from five minorities of Qinghai allowing the international students to form a more thorough understanding of the minorities. This collection has attracted thousands of researchers and visitors from both China and broad.

    III. Teaching of International Students

    This university has taken advantage of ethnic subjects and studies and is strengthened by cultural exchange and cooperation with foreigners. QNU has good conditions for studying, language learning and reading books in a variety of languages. International students can enjoy living in the excellent surroundings, secure and convenient housing and high-quality service.

    Chinese literature and minority languages literature provide students the opportunity to learn Chinese and Tibetan. Students can be instructed in research work according to their individual purposes. There are many textbooks for students to choose from. Professional teachers will provide instruction in Chinese, Tibetan and English. Students may attend classes with others or one-on –one instruction.

    More than 300 international students have come to QNU from over twenty countries including, Italy, France, Germany, Britain, Switzerland, the United States, Canada, Australia, Japan, Korea, Indonesia and South Africa.

    IV.Admission Requirements for International Students

    A: Enrollment students
    Graduate students: QNU welcomes anyone who is of good health and who has graduated from high school.

    Undergraduate students: Any student who graduates from high school should pass “HSK”(the lowest level is ‘c’). Students whose major is Tibetan language literature should pass Tibetan Level Test held in QNU.

    B: Classification of students
    1.Long-term Students: register and study in this university for more than one semester (18 weeks).
    2.Short-term Students: register and study in this university for less than one semester.
    3.Undergraduate students: register and study in this university for three-four years.

    C: Enrollment time
    Each year the fall semester begins in September and the spring semester begins in March. The application deadline is two months before the start of the semester (It is also possible to enroll at any other time of the year).

    D: Application Procedure
    Applicants (individual applications or applications) can contact the Foreign Affairs Office for admissions information and an application form. After completing the form, they should post or fax it to the foreign Affairs Office with application fee US$50. After receiving the application form and fee, the Foreign Affairs Office will send a letter of acceptance and a JW202 Form for a visa application to students are required to show these two documents to the Chinese embassy in their country in order to get an “x” visa. The applicants are required to register at the Foreign Affairs Office of QUN and follow the registration schedule specified in the acceptance letter. One is required to submit the acceptance letter, Jw202 Form, and a Health Examination Report supported by the original test results, and four passport-sized photographs.

    E: Courses Offered

    Graduate students:
    1.Elementary Chinese, intermediate Chinese, Advanced Chinese (Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing)
    2.Tibetan, Mongolian (Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing)
    3.The Local History, Culture, Economy, Education, and Customs of native minority Groups.
    4.Scientific studies in other areas.
    5.Preparation for the National Chinese Level Exam (HSK)

    Undergraduate students:
    1.Chinese language literature
    2.Tibetan language literature

    Duration of study:
    There will be a total of 14-16 hours instruction a week and each semester is ensured to have 17-18 weeks of classes.

    F: Practice
    Graduate students’ practice sessions will be arranged by the college. Expenses will be covered by the students. Upon completion of study a certificate of attendance will be issued.

    Undergraduate students’ practice follows the University’s teaching plan. When students pass examinations and dissertation, University will award certificate.

    G: Registration Fee
    Students must declare their intention to continue studying before the end of the semester. Students failing to do so must pay another US$50 Registration fee be re-admitted.

    H:  Tuition Fee
    1.Normal student US$ 700 per semester.
    2.Single-class student US$ 900 per student per semester.
    3.Short-term student US$60 per student per week.
    4.Undergraduate student US$ 1800 per year.

    I: Accommodations & Fees
    Single room (with kitchen, toilet & bathroom): Us$ 3 per person per day.
All rooms include TV sets\washing machines\ gas stoves refrigerator and other necessities, during the vacation, US$ 1 will be charged for storage fee only.
