China has long been known as “the land of ceremony and propriety.” Today, however, people often complain that public morals are no longer what they used to be. A family, for example, likes a cell of society, which also mirrors the general mood of a country. As we know, the Chinese have very strong family ties. But with the emergence of a “modern” concept to families, people find that problems like high divorce rate and extramarital affairs become more serious than ever before.

Another example: the name of Lei Feng who was always ready to lend a helping hand to others, used to be known by almost all Chinese as a model to learn from. But today, some people claim that “the spirit of Lei Feng” is outdated. Fashionable ideas say money talks. In the early stage of the market economic development, the appearance of some evil phenomena is not surprising. But we should not sit passively by and let it run rampant. Instead, active measures should be taken to improve morals and ethics of the public.

Personally, the media should play a leading role in this regard. They should spare no effort to praise the good and criticize the evil. They should guide people how to tell the truth, goodness and beauty from the fault, ugliness and evil.

Honesty has always been considered to be a worthy character trait in whatever culture. Indeed, it is often thought of as the most important human value. Therefore, the one is also regarded as a good quality of lead a student organization. From my perspective, being honest is essential in managing a student union, however, an eligible leader, especially for a student organization, there are other factors are supposed to be found more necessary adorable personalities.

Admittedly, honesty and trustworthiness is every student's essential virtue when tackle with affairs and is helpful for colleagues to improve and tell right from wrong. For example, when a colleague makes a mistake, plainly pointing out his mistake is definitely necessary. In reaction to this phenomenon, it would be also appropriate to tell the students to pay enough attention to them and encourage him to work with more cautions. However, on balance, for a leader to manage the team well, being honest is not enough for the absolutely honest to others would hurt their feelings. To avoid this, we have to consider other factors as a leader of student organization.

To begin with, it is irrational for us to take it for granted that young students who are obedient and loyal to teachers are already competent to guide other students in school. Leadership is more a matter of experimental skill than a matter of honesty. Undoubtedly, people begin to display some kinds of characteristics relative to leadership from a very young age, such as courage, determination as well as resolution. Leadership still goes beyond those personalities. What’s more, a leader will constantly be faced with tough decisions. Without learning to master one’s courage, determination as well as resolution, one will turn out to be an aggressive fool instead of an authoritative leader. Besides, how to cooperate with other teammates is also worth noticing. Without acquiring good communication skill during lots of experiences, one couldn’t become a sufficient student leader that can combine members’ talents together.

In a nutshell, we cannot deny the significance of honesty to a student. However, other personality, such as communication skills, teamwork, courage, determination and the capability of self-control, are equal important for a leader to take consideration.

The significance of social morality. Definitely，No one can deny the importance of it. Social morality is conducive to the enhancement of the civilization of society, people equipped with the awareness of social morality tend to place a high value on their behaviors , endeavor to adjust their behaviors to their code of conduct and restrict their undesirable actions which are removed from the social standard of being a decent man. To further illustrate the significance of social morality, I would like to take an empirical evidence as a case in point: statistics gathered by certain professional institutions have demonstrated that approximately 89% of countries, when assessing the level of social civilization, recognize social morality as a key indicator.

At no time should we underestimate the power of social morality. The authorities should launch a large-scale educational campaign to popularize the significance of social morality. Coinciding with these moves, we ourselves should also enhance the consciousness of it. Only in this way can we live in a more peaceful, prosperous and harmonious world.
