1. Why do people like to use social media?

I think peole are keen on social media because of their multiple functions. Social media goes beyond entertainment. Users cannot only watch movies and funny videos on platforms like Youtube, but also learn practical knowlege and skills like cooking and time management. Actually, it seems that social media is working as a one-stop-shop for all our daily needs , including keeping in touch with friends and family, getting news, sharing ideas, and even shopping. They have become a necessay part of our life.

2. What kinds of things are popular on social media?

A variety of things can be popular on social media. The most popular type could be videos. Vloggers would send videos of different topics on social platforms like TikTok, satisfying users curiosity about othes lives. For example, in China, there is this famous website named Bilibili, where people share their views and experiences of life, attracting millions of viewers every day, especially those videos talking about movies, games, travelling, and doing exercise. Another kind of social media content that people favor is pictures, including gifs and memes. These funny stuff spread quite fast among users because they are really hilarious. Besides, some articles written by successful experts in industries are also popular on social media.

3. What are the advantages and disadvantages of using social media?

One obvious benefit of using social media is that people can easily connect with others. In China, it is quite convenient to use Wechat to talk to friends, colleagues and family members as long as you have a smartphone. You can choose to send messages, make vocal calls or video calls. Another advantage is that, for people who would like to start their own businesses, social media provides them with a great platform to build their brands and promote their products. By opening an account and keeping posting informative advertising, they may save the cost of marketing and then make more profits. However, there are aslo drawbacks to using social media. It can be addictive and we might end up wasting time and having health issues. Besides, we might be misguided by fake news and incorrect information, causing unecessary anxiety.

4. What do you think of making friends on social network?

In my opinion, using social networks is a practical and effective way for people to expand their friend circles. In China, it is increasingly challeging for young working adults to make new friends due to their busy schedules. They could be so tired that instead of going out attending social events, they would rather sleep it off on weekends, meaning that they can hardly connect with others in real life. Such a problem can be more serious when it comes to introverts who dont like socialising in person. Thankfully, online social platforms like Facebook and Instagram enable people to easily reach out to others who share common interests with them, increasing the chance of making new friends from different backgrounds. But we should also pay attention to protecting our pravacy and safety when building friendships online.
